A mystery solved

Remember this:

from Kaikoura? Well, a friend of mine in Greymouth (on the West Coast, a little south of Westport) has solved the mystery. It is the remains of the open hearth and chimney of a house that would have once stood on the spot. Probably a whaler's house.
